File: jayose/Jayose Library: Overview of Ojaveda.txt

Located on the first level of Yliakum, east of Hydlaa, Ojaveda is a city home to many Enkidukai. Most homes in Ojaveda are broad tents known as ultics. An ultic is made of pieces of animal hide, sewn with great care, painted with memorial drawings and oiled to resist bad weather and rain. An ultic varies in diameter but can be as large as 20 meters across. It is supported by a clever structure of inclined wooden poles, which are tied with external ropes to maximize the usable space inside. The floor is usually covered with rugs and many pillows. Some sections of the ultic’s walls can be opened or rolled up to let in light and fresh air. Rooms are separated by thin folding screens made of paper or cloth. Often the rooms are ornate with treasures, weapons or hunting trophies. At the time of this writing, Ojaveda is composed of 211 ultics and a total of about 14000 inhabitants. About half of this community is devoted to farming the fields surrounding the village, while the others work in mining, are merchants in the village markets, or hired mercenaries for said merchants.

It is not unusual to find other races living in Ojaveda: after Enkidukai, Dwarves are the most common race. Enkidukai are divided into packs, each with different traditions, and do not like to intermarry too much. In Ojaveda each pack owns a part of the city surrounded by high walls. You can recognize the pack an Enkidukai belongs to by the colouring and pattern of his or her fur. The known packs are Rabani, Kore, Blikau, Sarraghi, Akkaio and Clamod.
